Pretty amazing slate of games this week. This is one of those weeks where you get irrationally angry at yourself for having friends or family that might try to get you off of your couch before 10 pm. And even after 10 you need to be near a TV for the late Pac-12 games. And maybe, just maybe, this is the week I can break .500. As always, lines courtesy of covers.com:
Baylor at Kansas State: Kansas State is off to a 3-0 start and the fans in Manhattan have nothing else to do but get out there and create a good home atmosphere. But I can’t mess with a winning formula: bet on RGIII. He’s like Achilles in Troy [that’s right, I get my historical information from Brad Pitt movies]. Baylor -3.5.
Northwestern at Illinois: Illinois is 4-0 and has finally crept into the Top 25, but no one has really paid them any mind. Northwestern rolls into town after losing to Army. I think Illinois wins going away to capture the Land of Lincoln Trophy.
Someone needs to talk to the Big 10 about the problems with giving everyone a trophy. Illinois -8.5.
Michigan State at Ohio State: This is the only Big 10 game without a trophy. Well, okay, Nebraska just joined so they don’t have trophies for all of their games yet either. Ohio State looked pretty terrible against the only decent team they played (the U). I think the Spartans cover, and maybe even pull the upset. Then they dine in hell. Michigan State +3.
Washington at Utah: Utah is fresh off of straight-up EMBARRASSING their rival, BYU. Now they get to host their first Pac-12 home game. The Utes are better than their ranking, which is unranked. Utah -8.
Southern Methodist at Texas Christian: The Mustangs take the long ride from Dallas to Fort Worth for this showdown between religiously named schools. I haven’t watched much of SMU but I’m just not a believer in TCU. They’ve certainly proven me wrong before, and I think they ultimately win this game, but I think SMU keeps it close. SMU +13.
FREE MONEY LOCK OF THE WEEK: Georgia Tech at NC State: This season isn’t going too well for the Wolfpack. Their quarterback from last season is now thrilling fans at Wisconsin. They lost to Wake Forest and were blown out by Cincinnati on national TV. Their basketball coach tried jumping out of a plane. Georgia Tech could secretly be the best team in the ACC. Take a good team on a roll and pit them against demoralized underachievers and what do you get? A blowout, that’s what. Georgia Tech -10.
Last week: 3-3
Season Total: 13-11
